WELLINGTON STREET

Client: Finstar

Location: Auckland

Year: 2017

The Foundries is a boutique development of 19 two storey townhouses in Auckland’s Freeman’s Bay which offers a welcome alternative to the increasing number of high-rise apartments being built in and around the city’s CBD. The ‘Loft’ dwellings all have stunning views of the city skyline to the east with sunny elevated terraces accessed from the lane to the west. The ‘Bolt’ apartments nestle into the treetops on the boundary with Freeman’s Bay school. The materials and forms of the buildings have been informed by the gritty industrial past of the area. Saw tooth roofs and lofty ceiling spaces combine with exposed concrete, timber and steel both inside and out to create a strong identity for this character-filled part of the city. The Foundries won an NZIA Auckland Architecture Award in 2018.
